Terms of Service

The rules for using Telescope. They go with our Privacy Policy, which covers what we collect and why.

Accepting these terms#

These terms are an agreement between you and Little Planet Labs, LLC ("Little Planet Labs", "we", "us"). By using any part of Telescope, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Telescope.

If you use Telescope on behalf of a company or other organization, or connect an agent that acts for one, you're agreeing to these terms for that organization too, and you confirm you're allowed to do that.

You need to be at least 13 years old to use Telescope. How we handle information is covered in our Privacy Policy.

What Telescope is#

Telescope tracks incidents at third-party providers by watching their public status pages. It includes:

  • The website
  • The Telescope apps for iOS and Android, which can send push notifications
  • A public, read-only MCP server that AI agents can connect to (see Connect an agent)
  • A Bluesky account that posts incident updates

Telescope is free. There are no accounts or sign-ups, and there's nothing to buy.

Acceptable use#

Use Telescope for what it's for. Don't:

  • Attack, probe, or disrupt Telescope or the systems behind it, or try to get into parts of it you weren't given access to, including the operator-only admin area
  • Get around rate limits or other restrictions, for example by spreading requests across many IP addresses
  • Scrape or request data at a volume beyond normal use, or in a way that puts unreasonable load on the service
  • Send the MCP tools anything unlawful, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share, including other people's secrets, credentials, or personal information
  • Use Telescope to break the law or to harm anyone, including us and the providers we monitor
  • Suggest that Telescope or its data is endorsed by, or is an official source for, any provider it monitors

Rate limits and blocking#

Parts of Telescope, including the diagnose_suspected_failure MCP tool, are rate limited. We can change those limits at any time, and we can throttle, block, or cut off access for any IP address, device, or client that we think is abusing Telescope or putting it at risk. If you have a legitimate need for higher limits, email telescope@littleplanetlabs.com.

MCP server and AI output#

diagnose_suspected_failure sends the description and snippets you provide to a third-party AI model, which estimates whether a known incident explains your problem. Its answers are automated probabilities, not a confirmed diagnosis, and they can be wrong. Treat them as a lead to check, and don't rely on them as the only basis for a decision that matters.

You're responsible for what you and your agents send. Don't include API keys, passwords, tokens, customer data, or other personal information.

Status data comes from third parties#

Incident information comes from the providers' own status pages, through RSS feeds and webhooks. It can be delayed, incomplete, or wrong, and a provider can have problems it hasn't posted. Telescope may also miss or misread an update. Check a provider's official status page before acting on something important, and don't use Telescope as your only monitoring for anything critical.

No affiliation with the providers#

Telescope isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the providers it monitors. Their names, logos, and trademarks belong to their owners, and we use them only to identify the services we track.

Our content#

Telescope's software, design, and branding belong to Little Planet Labs. You can use Telescope and share what it shows you, but you can't copy or reuse our branding or present Telescope as your own.

Availability, changes, and ending access#

We run Telescope on a best-effort basis. It may be slow or unavailable at times, and we don't promise any level of uptime. We can change, pause, or shut down any part of Telescope, including the apps, the MCP server, or the tools it offers, at any time and without notice. We can also stop providing Telescope to anyone who breaks these terms.

No warranties#

Telescope is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that Telescope will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that its status data, notifications, or AI output will be accurate, complete, or on time.

Limitation of liability#

Telescope is provided free of charge. To the fullest extent the law allows, Little Planet Labs isn't liable for any damages arising from or related to Telescope or these terms, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive, including lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, even if we were told they were possible. That includes losses from missed, late, or wrong notifications, status data, or diagnoses.

Some places don't allow some of these exclusions or limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Indemnity#

If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Telescope, what you sent to it, or your breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

Governing law#

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute related to these terms or Telescope will be handled in the state courts located in Williamson County, Texas, or the federal courts for the Western District of Texas, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms#

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll post the new version here and change the effective date at the top. If you keep using Telescope after that, you're agreeing to the updated terms.

The rest#

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part of these terms, that doesn't mean we've given up the right to. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Telescope.
